                                                     Voter Fraud

With the growing number of non-citizen residents in Texas, primarily illegal
aliens, the need to ensure the security of our elections is more important
    than ever.

In 1997, while serving in the Texas Senate, I introduced the concept of
requiring voters to show photo ID or a valid voters registration card before
casting a ballot in Texas.  After much heated debate,  and despite having
only 17 Republicans in the senate, I provided the leadership to pass the
bill  from the senate.  Though it was watered down in the Democrat
controlled house, it advanced the concept of requiring proof of identification
    at the ballot box.

In the last legislative session, the Republican controlled house was able to
strip the watered down provisions from current law.  Although the senate
now has 20 Republicans members, the measure failed on the senate floor.
